Two years ago at the shallow water, a young guy was tying a damsel fly at the Callaway booth. He put them in a plastic sleeve and gave em away to folks watching. He tied them very fast. Are you familiar with that. Is that a local Callaway killer. It had a rabbit fur tail, olive dub body, small gold bead chain eyes, and pale yellow rubber legs. Was wondering if you know the hook size and model he used? I didn't get a freebie myself. Also, do you know how to fish this. Slow twitch or a strip? Don't know how a damsel moves under water.

Jack-
The young man was almost certainly Carter Nelson. The fly was the "rubber-legged dragon", a damsel or dragon fly nymph. Oh, have I caught a lot of fish on this! And he does tie them very fast!

Normally tied on, I think, on #6-10 hooks in olive, brown or black. Bead chain let's it ride hook up. Slow twitch & hesitate. Gets deep without a lot of hangups. Use longer, lighter leader to get deeper.

Soon I'm going to have some of Carter's flies up on my site for sale (Carter will be tying them). He does some very effective and original things - you may have seen some of his articles in the various fly fish magazines.

Here's a pic of the RLD http://www.mindspring.com/~kje/rl_dragon.html .

Carter will be at the Shallow Water Expo with his new outfit based at Lake Lanier.
