Anybody want to give their 2 cents on portable depth finders for a small open aluminum boat. I'll check the stores but I just want anybody's experiences with any particular brands or types. For fishfinding and in saltwater if that matters.

I have a portable battery powered Hummingbird Wide eye one hundred that works real well, I have used it in a 12' aluminum boat and it worked fine. They are only a little more than $100. I like it because you do not have to use your trolling motor battery and it is not perminantly mounted.

I had the 400 series, like Michael, except it ran off the trolling batt. worked great. Best memory was seeing a " school" of crappie one cold Dec. day, dropping a small jig down, feeling a tap....and pulling up a 5 lb. b@ss !
hmmmmmmmm.........try asking Cabela's for a sale paper. I got one and I think there are DF for on sale in it.

Owl, if you are referring to tying, it is off to somewhat of a slow start. I need to get some more materials. I have tied several nymphs and it seems they are easier then dries. Still learning......
