View Full Version : Waters Creek restock
I had read Waters had been restocked this year, and had also read a couple of posts (I believe from the same angler)reporting a good day on Waters with lots of fish. I fished there April 17 and was very disappointed, having fished Waters several times in 1993 when there were lots of fish throughout the creek (including very large ones). The fish seemed to disappear in 94' and 95' and I didn't bother from then on until I heard what I thought was good news. I was hoping that Waters was back. With the exception of some flat, still water at the bottom third or so, I checked the creek from the check in station to well past where it climbs up pretty steeply and gets narrow and overgrown. I saw maybe two fish all morning. Blind casted in good looking water with no results, then waded through some just to see if there was anything there to spook (there wasn't). Maybe I have become blind!
I don't think you went blind Jody, I didn't find any fish above the lower section myself.
Some nice fish still live in the bottom section but the ones in the flat water are very hard to catch. If you can ease into the creek just upstream of the flat water you can still catch some nice fish but the banks are so overgrown you can't fish from the bank. I totally agree this creek has a long way to go to get back to what it once was, I sure do miss those days.
What a perfect DH stream this would be if the trophy regs ever get phased out. Lord knows we don't need just another stocker stream. We have a gadzoodle of them already !

I didn't fish Waters Creek before 1997, but this year in May, I managed to hook up with 8 trout. Four of which were in the 16-20 inch range. The beaver dams have backed up the water into the woods and over the old banks. Along that old bank is where I had the best luck with the larger fish. Upstream where the creek gets narrow, is the best place to fish to me. Yes, the fish are smaller, but they sure are a challenge.
I'm glad I didn't fish there before all the change. You see, I don't know that I'm not having a good time when I go there!
