Gents,

As a _very_ novice fisherman to the long rod, I'm looking to expand the ol' fly box with some additional weapons.

Most of my patterns are currently in the #14-#16 sizes, with a few WB's larger and a couple of dries (EHC) slightly smaller. (I'm thoroughly discouraged with the thought of trying to tie on a #24 midge...)

Anyhoo, the question I have is:
What are the most common sizes that work for you in N. Ga? I've researched the archives and there's a lot of discussion about _patterns_ but not about _sizes_. What info is out there seems to prefer #14, #16, and #18 as the favorites. Opinions Gents?

BornAgain,
The smallest size I have ever caught a fish on was a #20. The Biggest is a #10. The vast majority (ok the other 3 http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif ) have come on flies between #14 and #18. I don't think tieing a #20 on is a big deal but after three hours of standing in the Hootch it does tend to get harder to do. With Dries I would tend to get no bigger than a 14 (of course that still depends on the individual fly. I've caught fish on the chatooga with a #10 Royal Wulff) and with nymphs you can go to 12 and still have good luck.

I'd say the general answer is smaller is better but you don't need to go tiny either.

There are guys on this board who I am sure are much better fisherman than I am as well but that is my $.02. (maybe $.04 since I rambled)
