Yes my beloved St Croix Ultra sorta bit the dust last night.. Broke off the tip of the butt/handle section when the rod came apart mid-cast.. It's heading back to St Croix today and i hope I get it back before my next weekend in NC during Easter.. Anyone have a clue what i'm in for.. Will my rod come back still 8'6"??? Could I talk them into upgrading to the new IPC Ultra's??? Bout broke my heart when i felt things go bad in that cast last night.. Last 30min of daylight and the dry fly action was heating up at SB too.. http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/frown.gif

Call them. They will tell you.

Sounds like a slower rod given where the separation took place. My fast action rods pitch rod tips and my medium action rods come apart in the middle.

Rods coming apart used to be an annoyance, but lately I've started using a technique borrowed from spey rods. Yes, I wax the ferrules, but that isn't enough with a spey. They also tape the spey sections together with Scotch 33+ electrical tape. It doesn't take much. Wrap from the butt section so if a tape-end works loose, it won't interfere with casting. The darn thing stays together and the tape comes off without marring the rod. I'll admit it's a little wierd, but I have mentioned that I'm lazy.

Bob,

I think I talked with you at the Festival this year. What a great guy and personality. We need to hit the water one day together and I can show you how lazy a fisherman can actually be and still catch fish. It might scare you... LOL!

Take care,

-Shawn

I got lazy and stopped using the wax.. Maybe this will teach me...lol I talked with them today and got the general answers.. It was mostly my fault for not keeping an eye out like i do most times.. I check it about once an hour when i'm on the water.. I still love that rod http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif Good thing Luke has his spare up for sale.. I may have to test it out until mine returns.. Maybe i'll get lucky and they replace the Ultra with the new IPC tech Ultra's http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/biggrin.gif

Loki, Yep, that was me and I'm looking forward to it. You'd have to be pretty darn lazy to stay back that far. :)

At the moment I'm about four thousand miles from home and this is hosing fishing opportunies. I've got stripers, white bass, and trout lined up for the next AO turn around, so there is hope in the world. Had I been in town, I'd have taken you up on the offer to trade fishing trips.

...and I liked that Eagle claw rod too.

Cheers
Bob
