I mainly fish 4 and 5 weight rods on the Hootch and the mountains.
Is there any reason to get a 6 weight rod?
Are they more effective in windy conditions (as usual on the Hootch)?
Better for bass?

Thanks

I started flyfishing with a 6wt rod mostly on lakes and rivers for b****and it does cast better on a windy day than my 4wt I still feel its a little lite for bass. I caught lots of b****in the 4lb and under range and had a great time doing it but the bigger b****would pull loose. I suspect this was because I couldn't put a large enough hook out there with a 6wt. It also could have been my own inability to play the larger fish properly. At any rate I think a 6wt would be a great rod for the 'hooch and i'm looking at buying another 6wt myself.

I still use 6 and 7's even on small streams. The two that I use most often were made for me--I swear--I don't tire from casting and am not afraid of really putting some pressure on the bigger fish.
My 5wt is a piece of crap and I'm not quite ready to fork over a bunch of $$ just for a small stream rod.

I really like the heavier rods in the hotter months; I keep from over tiring the fish when I can pretty much jerk them to my hand when I set the hook.

Only problem is taking 6 or 7 wt fly line down to 6x tippet--sometimes I have trouble turning my fly over for perfect presentation.
