View Full Version : Need Advice on 3WT
I have a nice 5WT (Abel/Scott) for the 'Hooch, but now covet a good (reasonable)3WT for my mountain trips. I have seen all of the reels at the FishHawk, but can only discriminate by $$$, so if any one has a good experience with a model I would like to know.
I do plan on getting a rod from Bill at Blue Ridge, but could use some input on length and action.

I think the hottest thing going right now is the Teton Tioga, Model 2 for 3Wt at $100. This is a machined from solid stock reel rather than a casting. Check them out at www.tetonreels.com.

i have saw the teton reels and they look nice and affordable but besides that i can't really say. I have an abel TR Light on a 5.5 ft sage and it's a great combination. The only draw back to the abel is it has no drag but for the smaller streams you rarely need it, on the other hand a friend has a small cortland and it is a very nice real with a drag, it is cheap and built very nice take a look at it and don't dish on it because of it's maker it really is a fine reel. On rod length anything between 5.5 and say 9ft is good it depends on the person. With the shorter rod you can actually cast, but with the longer rod you can dapple and have more length it's all up to how you fish.
