After a ood conversation with lefty the other day, he asked me if I tied many fly with weed guards and passed on a good idea for weedguards. He has started using coated braided wire like sevalon instead of Mono. He said it has been working 10 times better than mono and will take the abuse of quite a bit more fish. Just wanted to p****on a little info that I picked up and thought that you guys could try.

Shawn..I tied some weedless girdlebugs recently..didn't have any how to guide so I used a short peice of heavy mono with a knot on each end so when I wrapped the thread around the mono and hook it would not slip...do I need the knots or will the mono stay in place w/o knots...the knots are kind of bulky.
Also where do you get the sevalon?? Not familiar with it.

Superchub, if tying weedguards, I have never used any knots when tying it in. If you are tying the mono in at the eye, thread it through the eye and pinch back along the shank. If not, you can try burning the end of the mono to serve the same purpose of the knot whithout the bulk. In general, tie it in and coat it with a good amount of cement.

SC,
If it's the kind of sevalon that I remember using in my formative years along the Gulf Coast, you can get it most any place where saltwater tackle is sold. We used to use it for leaders for toothy saltwater fish.

Thanks for the tip SHAWN, that will be a nice addition on my big hairy stuff. I'm just trying to figure out how to addapt it to my sz 22 blue winged olives.
