Hello to all on the board. I have been reading here for a while but have never posted. I have messed up in spooling a new fly line. It is twisted big time and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get the twist out. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Welcome aboard Grady, try this pull all your flyline off the spool all the way to the backing, straighten it out in the yard and then reel it back in pinching it between your fingers (to apply a little pressure). Or you could stand in a stream and let all your flyline out (downstream) then reel it back in this should remove any twist.

Bt is right, but I was wondering - Is it new line or new to you? I've never had it twist on me , but spooling line on a spinning rig - tat can be a twisting nightmare! hope it un-twists for ya !

Thanks for the advice, folks. Will try it when the snow melts a little. FYI, NightOwl, the line is a new SA GPX. I, too, had experineced the nightmare of twisted line on a spinning reel, but it did not occur to me that the same might happen with a fly line. Live and learn, I guess.

Grady, Pull out all your line. Place your foot on the line and pull up until you have *stretched* all of the line. This will straighten your line and give you a better cast.
