I am trying to decide what to tie for the mayfly swap, but can't figure out what is and what isn't a mayfly. Help please.

One of the best refs for this is "Flies for Trout" by Stewart & Allen (about $20). It groups patterns/photos for mayflies under "mayfly nymphs", "mayfly emergers", "mayfly duns" & mayfly spinners". Some names you may recognize are: Hendrickson, Green Drake, Hexagenia, March Brown, Isonychia, Pale Morning Dun, Blue Wing Olive, Light Cahill, Callibaetis, Sulphur Dun, & Trico. A Pheasant Tail Nymph is a mayfly nymph as well.

Ole Man,

Thanks for the book suggestion, I'll check it out. In the meantime, those patterns will give me an idea as I look through the pattern books I do have.

Books, books, books..... and to think I still need to buy Hatches II and Selective Trout that WDN suggested....
