Here's an interesting article regarding a potentially huge disaster for both recreational, and commercial fishing in the Gulf.

Waterborne fire-ants anyone?

CE,

This article was in my hometown's (Mobile, AL) newspaper a few Sundays ago. The problem is serious. On my last trip to the beach, I couldn't even take my family swimming due to the numbers of jellyfish. We had to hitch a ride in a boat back into the brackish bays to find a place. We need more menhaden and possibly the introduction of Pacific j-fish predators. They are trying the introduction of nat. predators on fire ants down at Auburn U. and it seems to be working well. They just need more studies. If you fish or swim on the Gulf Coast, particularly the N. Gulf, be careful and do all you can to help a healthy spawn of trout and redfish by limiting pollution. --Edwin
