Goin' fishing, anybody interested?
Thinking Chattooga or places North, but could be talked into the 'hooch.

Hey EE,
Hmm,, fish somewhere close by or drive a bit? First disclaimer: I know this area not. I've only nosed around the 'hooch and Smiths since I've been in Georgia. I come from Arkansas.
Essentially, I itch to stand in a creek, somewhere, and thrash the water into submission. Second Disclaimer: I _suck_ at fly fishing. I am the Kirby vacumms of fly fishing. Spent all my youth with spinning gear, cane poles, and Duracraft boats chasing papermouths. But, what I lack in skill, I make up for in enthusiasm!
My wife and I spent Valentines' Day up around Dawsonville and Dalonega and got me to thinking <again> about New Water. Of course, knowing people are catching fish close can sway me easily.
Amicalola sounds nice. The Ellijay, Noontootla, Conasauga, Chattooga; they all sound like pretty names, too. Wading through shoals, or even a float would be fine. My tube hasn't left the garage since the summer.
Basically, I'm taking a little personal time off on Monday. I. Need. To. Go. Fishing.
I'd love to have ya' along...

amicalola is kind of rough wading from what i can tgell although i have never fished there .... noontootla and conasauga are not for beginners. chattooga is great! smith creek is a viable option and a good intro to flyfishing. the ellijay has little if any public access. The toccoa is a good option. i am gonna end up fishing all weekend at this rate ..... god life is good. by the way where will you be coming from? and we can pick an option that is not so far away also.

I'm coming from Vinings, close to Cumberland Mall, so Toccoa or the 'hooch DH is closest. I'm not opposed, however, to driving a couple of hours to try something new. (Gotta' be back by 6pm, though, for another enagagement that evening.)
Waddya' think?

Sorry to but in.....
The Ami can fish great and I bet with the weather we have had this week it will be really on fire, unless we get a lot of rain between now and Monday. EE you are correct, the wading can be tricky. Move slow, be sure of your footing and use a wading staff if you have one. You could start our wading from the parking area at the 53 bridge. Walk straight out from where you parked and head up river or all the way down to 53 bridge.
It is REALLY slick in some paces and some runs are VERY deep. Lot of diverse runs, ripples, trenches, and still pools. If you wade upstream from where I suggested you will eventually come to a VERY deep large pool, you can hike around it easily but I have seem some monsters lurking around there.
Be careful and have a blast. Sure wish I could go fishing on a Monday. http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/frown.gif

I sure hope Heaven has a trout stream.
I will third the treacherous wading at Ami. I never head up there w/out a wading stick. In fact, I have left a few up against the trees at the Hwy 53 parking lot while loading up my car to leave - they may still be there as I did this once, went back two weeks later and upon arrival realized I had left it at home only to see one leaning against a tree and by God if it wasn't the same one I thought I had left at home - (of course I did the exact same thing at the end of the day and never saw it again).
I am considering heading up there Monday myself (still not sure though) as it's been well over a year since I've been there.
