Last Year just before going to Canada I bought a baitcasting pole and reel...Not a cheap....I put 40 pound spiderwire on it and I went to the only open water to fish on...The lock and dam at Lynxville, Wisconsin...I took all of my high priced huge northern baits and of I went...It was late April and no one else was there....I have never used a baitcaster before but I had read that they worked great for big Canadian Northern....The first few cast went great...I really didn't throw out too hard....I had a Joe Bucher Depth Raider on...Big three treble hooked jobber....I felt confident so I let a big cast fly....The rest is HISTORY...I caught a 76 incher...240 pounds....BIGGEST dang ANGLER I had ever caught...The baitcaster backlashed about 15 yards out and came screaming back at me...I defensively put out my pole and extended my arms....The idea of a treble hook in the face was not appealing....Instead of the face it hooked into my left palm....Two of the three huge trebles were buried in the palm of my left hand....It really didn't hurt that bad...It happened so fast....One of the trebles had come out the other side of my hand...One was way deep in my palm....I took out the needle nose and popped off on the barbs of the treble....The other was way to deep to mess with....It took me 20 minutes to the next town and Immediate Care...Four huge shots to numb my hand and the doctor pulled the treble through and cut off the treble just like I did....Tetanious shot and was ready to go...I was whinning the entire time and told the doc that I was going to sell that stupid baitcaster and the lures....I left with 200 bucks in my pocket....The DOCTOR bought the rig and lures...I took a beating on the price but I AM NEVER GOING TO BUY ANOTHER BAITCASTER..........spinner.........
