Sunday I went northern pike fishing in my home town. Casted with practically the entire tackle box. I usually slay a few fair sized ones right after trout fish. I was fishin on the Kickapoo River in my home town...I started to run out of lures to try...I had this huge triple treble hooked pikee Minnow...Red and white...First cast I caught a 34 inch northern...Really a battle on 8 pound test...Went there tonight and I changed from 8 to 15 pound test. I put on a huge flatfish...Yellow with black and red dots...I did not get to see the fish...It almost most ripped the rod out of my hand...It was only on for a split second...I have caught some big fish before....I am make a wild guess that this was 40 inch plus northern in the 20-25 pound range...Casted till dark...NO MORE HITS...Am going after work tomorrow...spinner..

Spinner,
So how is Madtown these days? Lived there for a few years when I was young, and went to UW for a year, in 1980. Wish the winters weren't so ugly, I would probobly still be there. But I'm still a cheddarhead.

Sounds like fun. Keep casting!
Hey spinner,
Have you ever fished for Northerns with a flyrod. A couple of years ago, I got a chance to go up to Canada and fish with a friend. I used my 9wt the whole time. We were fishing from pontoon kickboats and I had a great time. In for days of fishing I caught 80 some Northerns. My largest was 37 inches. Now that is a experience, trying to bring in a fish that big while it is trying to swim around your legs. Once I got it to the side of my boat, then I had to reach down and try to unhook it. As I was looking into those beady eyes, I know that fish was thinking of only one thing, how it was going to sink all those teeth into my hand.
I want to go back again.

Hey i just read your post --- try flyfishing for the northerns in the spring next year..
I went to northern ontario in october and had a blast--- didn't land a 37" on flyrod --- good thing though i was using a 9' 6 wt -- no drag on my reel. caught a 24" on it though that was a blast--- caught a 34" on spinner using 8 lb test.. as you can tell i like big fish on light tackle---
i.e. the 7' 6" nurse shark i pulled in at the keys a few years ago with 12 lb test line and light action spinning rod..
