I just recently got back from a trip to wisconsin. my dad and i headed to IA first to visit my sister and then drove to WI. i had been in touch with spinner and we met up with him at 5:45 in the morning last monday. we headed out to a nearby stream that wasn't on the trout maps. i got the first shot at the first hole. i caught a beautiful little brown and missed a pretty large one. spinner then hooked and lost a large brown. i always thought i fished really fast but spinner flies! he fishes for only the big(over 20") fish, and doesn't waste his time with anything else. we then got harrased by a farmer who was and i quote spinner a "doorknob." we then jumped around from stream to stream looking for all the big ones. no luck landing them but we managed to hook and lose a few. spinner had to go watch his daughter, and my dad and i went and caught some little brookies. as a side note the cabela's store is awesome, and i now have a spin rod to learn how to use http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif
dad and then spent the next few days traveling the area and enjoying the fishing, until we got hit by the monsoon http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/frown.gif it must have rained 5 inches in one night ruined the fishing so we headed on home. it took us 4 hours to get through chicago because of the weather. rain, hail, tornadoes, and LOTS of lightning make for interesting travel. on the way home we stopped by deep creek. we camped there then hiked about 4 miles in. i ended up cathing one chub, 2 browns and, a pretty 10" rainbow. my dad caught 4 or 5 bows. all real pretty, the only problem is that it rained there too. i think we hit every pocket of bad weather in the eastern US, i hate rain. we had great fishing, just not enough time.
spinner thanks for showing us around, and for the tips on the spinning rod, its alot of fun.
for those of you that fish deep creek, how far in is the best fishing? and how do you fish it? we got a bunch of last minute refusals.
this was the fish of the week. its a 14" native brookie from WI caught by my dad on an EHC.
i can't get the pic to show up so here is a link. thanks for putting it on your page owl. actually now i dont' have permission to acess it so heres a link to owl's picture page. it'll say "The senior Betzel with a nice Brookie !!!!"
