AS most of you know, I've been a bass fihserman alot longer than I've been a trouter, and I have caught a few that were what I consider really big fish..bass in the 10 pound range( one pushing 13 or 14 ), and the fish I saw yesterday made all those guys look like panfish fillets! I just gotta tell you guys and gals about this one...

Here's the tale, and it's true, my wife was there as a witness! http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif

There is a double lake that I fish, the owner wants to work on the dam, so the upper lake is being lowered. Water is pouring out of the upper lake into the lower, releaseing cooler temps and oxygen in a pretty swiftly flowing stream......so I figured, from experiences like that in the past, that the little bass I usually catch would be stacked up there. But, instead of following my instinct, I fished the upper lake almost til dark, ....I got quite a few, and then, about 45 minutes form dark the action stopped. AS I walked across the dam, back to where AMber was catfishing( with no luck), she motioned for me to hurry up! She was watching the water discharge, and there were explosions all in the foam! I scurried down the hill and began to cast......4, 10, 12, 18, I don't know how many fish I caught on consecutive casts.......all of them, the typical size for that lake, 12 to 14 inches.........Amber was making her way down the hill and had just walked up beside me when I got another little bass on......as I pulled it up to the grass, like I did the others,........it made a fierce run( for a 10 inch fish) under a log. It was going crazy! About the time I said, " Wow, what's with this guy?"...he came out from under the log( which was half out of the water, at my feet) and a HUGE bass lunged up fomr the dark water , within a few inches of the surface( I was just about to pull the bass out) and ate my 10 inch bass !!!!!
I had him on for a split second( or rather my little bass still had the hook in him)..and the hook came out of the smll fish. I saw the bass, up close, even if it was just for a second......and comparing him to the other half dozen or so big bass I've caught........he was easily 15 pounds.......and that's a conservative estimate. I really think he was bigger, but hesitate to say so.....he was as long as a big striper, but I clearly saw the dark lateral line and huge mouth as he swiped my catch. My knees got wobbly and I had to sit down. http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif My wife laughed at me. She's been with me when I missed big fish....one at High Falls, that almost made me cry( this was before i had caught anything over a few pounds).......and she knew, too, that this was a monster of a fish. I hope he gets hungry again this spring. I have a 10 inch worm with his name on it. http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/wink.gif

Sounds like fun!!!! Me and you gonna get them ba$$ this fall out at marben. I got my little truck wired up and ready. I can take my little boat or we can belly float. I have not been out there in a couple of months. I did catch about a 3 pounder on my 5 weight a month or so ago fishing a very small bream popper/ He fought like mad. I guess i will be able to finally meet you at the fling on Saturday.

Everyone needs to get in one last fishing trip on the Hooch before it's turned into the killing fields.
