This really happened...

My brother gave me the beginers version of a fly rod. 20$ at walmart.

last wednesday I went to the hwy41 park and waded in to find some trout.

i am familiar with how a flyrod should work but i've never used one.

i learned 3 things about fly fishing...
1. the river is deeper than it looks
2. regular fishing line will not replace a tapered leader.
3. dont put your wallet in your back pocket while trying to forde a river deeper than your legs are long

i made my way north from the boat ramp (and the kids)and started looking for some place a trout would hide at 2pm..amazingly i found a 12" one hanging in the current on the west side...just sitting there waiting for me

as i tried to get him to eat my fly, he didn't even notice it.

eventualy he drifted under a bush and i put my fly right in it(the bush)

the trout never moved so i made my way to the bush and untangled my fly and he still never moved...

so i reached down and picked him right out of the water...

mabe somebody fees him a beer, or a qualude or something(i released him,its no fun if you dont actually catch him)

I actually grabbed one of the biggest trout i have ever seen a Smith's creek on opening day. Kept drifting flies to this monster and they kept knocking him on the head. So i think is this SOB alive. Reach over and grabbed him. Wish Debacker had been around for a pic. It was funny as hell.

Had a similar experience in Va this year. I took one of my frat brothers flyfishing for the first time, and ten minutes after we get in the water he tells me there is a fish just sitting under the rock by his foot, with its tail sticking out from underneath. I walked over and saw what I thought was a dead fish caught under a rock. My friend then reaches down and picks up the then startled trout. BTW they had stocked the stream 2 days earlier. Had another strange experience that same day.
The stream I was fishing was next to the road, and some guy pulls up in his van and asks if I mind if they take some pictures of me. Six photographers pile out of the van, and I am suddenly surrounded by them. After about twnty minutes and what had to be 3 rolls of film apeice, they got back into the van and the guy left me a card. It turns out he was with some photography studio, and he said he would send me some pictures. That was sure one strange day.

My grandfather was in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Warwoman back in the 30s, and he used to get a kick out of telling me his trout "fishing" stories.

Seems one of his cohorts there showed him how to catch trout by hand by rubbing their bellies. He said it worked like a charm, but I've never laid my rod down long enough to try it.

Were you in Indiana jjohns, you would be in violation of a law.

I can't believe these are true, but it's pretty entertaining.

I think that's a fine law.

We have very few dumb laws, according to that site, which, for the few states I looked at, seemed to get increasingly general and vague as you scrolled the page downward. Still, I good laugh...next I'm going to look up California ! http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif That should be a riot. http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif
