When I bought my waders and boots, Hodgman enclosed a free trial memebership to TU. I took advantage of this because I wanted to see what all TU had to offer before I signed up and paid dues for a real membership. It has been about 5 or 6 weeks now and nothing. Does TU still honor these trial memebrships?

Go to www.tu.org (http://www.tu.org) and the "contact us" section for the e-mail and phone numbers for membership inquiries. The regular memberships are $35 a year. The Hodgman offer should still be good. ---JCK---

ST,
I had the same problem last year when I purchased a float tube that contained the same offer. In my case, I was already a TU member, and used the certificate as my renewal when my dues came up that year.
About a month after I sent it in, I got a notice that my membership was lapsing. I called the TU membership office and was told it would be another couple of weeks. I received a second notice that my membership would soon end, so I called the office again. This time, I got a different guy who said somewhat tersely "These offers are only for new members, and we really don't like giving away yearly dues to existing members". I explained to this bureaucrat wannabe that the notice said nothing about NEW memberships, or that it was void for existing members. Being a man of principle (and a little cheap) I didn't give in, and I convinced him to honor the certificate and renew my membership.
Therefore, if you don't get something soon, you may want to look up their membership phone number and give them a call.
Good luck!

I think the inertia at TU is incredible. I renewed through my local chapter to keep my $ at home, and it took nearly 3 months or more of "Your membership is lapsing!" "Renew Now!" messages before they seemed to reconcile their books.
