For those of you who live in the Stone Mtn., Snellville, Lilburn, Loganville, Grayson, and east Lawrenceville areas, the Kanooka Chapter of TU, which has been inactive for some time, is getting fired up again. The first new meeting will be held at Summits Wayside Tavern, as will all meetings thereafter, Tues. Jimmy Harris will be the speaker and all food and drinks will be FREE for the first meeting.Summits has a great selection of food and all kinds of beers on tap.
All meetings afterward will be held on the second Tues. of each month.
Rumor has it that a trip to Naccochee bend will be up for grabs as well.
Hope to see you there as this has been a long time coming and is needed for folks in those areas who want to get invoved in TU.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Thanks,
Duane

Was assigned to this chater a couple of years ago and was told it wasn't active. Good to see it back up. I'm out of town on 3-9 but look forward to the following meetings. Will contact 2 of my neighbors about the 3-9 meeting. Thanks.

Just bringing this back to the top. A reminder that food and drink will be FREE for the first meeting and the owner of the best fly shop around and one of the nicest people I know will be the speaker, well actually, that guy cancelled,so we got Jimmy Harris instead!

I just saw this post so I do not know if I can make it or not. What is the address of this Tavern? I will try to make it to future meetings if I don't make this one.

He gives some basic directions in the first thread, but if you are comming in on 78 from the Monroe/Loganville area, Summits Tavern is on the left, not too far after the light at Highpoint Road ( where the 3 Dollar Cafe is ). Summits used to be a Taco Mac.

Sorry I couldn't make it but I'll try to be at the next one. How was the turnout ?

Hey,

If you weren't there Tuesday night, you missed a great presentation from Jimmy Harris.

Here is Jimmy's bottom-line, “Get your fly down to the fish on a drag-free drift and keep it in the water.” Jimmy said that proper line management is the key element of the drag-free drift. He emphasized that mending your line will keep you fly in the water (where the fish are) and allow your fly to drift with the natural flow of the current. Mending will also allow you to keep the essential “tight line”. Jimmy said you’ll catch more fish using a strike indicator and weighting your fly, as needed, to get it to the fish. Remember to cast upstream and allow for the fly’s sink rate. You should target your cast to allow your fly enough time to sink to the fish and drift naturally through the strike zone.

Bad2Fish (aka Mark Poole) won the grand prize of a half-day for two at Unicoi Outfitters' Nachoochee Bend. Mark, do you need some help with Jimmy's footballs?

Jimmy, thanks for your continued support

Our next meeting will be April 13 at Summits, Chris Scalley of River Through Atlanta will offer tax saving tips and even may discuss fishing on the Hooch.

See ya at Summits on Tuesday, April 13th.
