First Annual Townsend Trout FEST on June 5 & 6, 2004 in Townsend, Tennessee
Our chapter is organizing this Trout FEST as a fund raising and educational event to support our mission of Protecting & Restoring Cold Water Resources and Watersheds In and Around the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Many of you have enjoyed the excellent native trout fishing in this area where our chapter activities include acid deposition water sampling, river clean-ups, fish sampling, stream restoration, and restoration of the only native trout, The Southern Brookie or specks as the old timers call them.
This 2-day festival will be held on the grounds at the Townsend Visitors Center and features educational displays and demonstrations, vendors of fishing and mountain related art & crafts. A casting contest will be managed by FFF Masters Gary & Wanda Taylor, and a Saturday night banquet and auction at the Maple Leaf Lodge. Public education and fund raising are the purpose of this TROUT FEST. All of the net proceeds will go into our conservation work in the Little River Watershed and to support the GSMNP Fisheries programs. You can help by:
1. Spreading the word by announcements to your chapter members about the Townsend Trout FEST, include the dates in your chapter calendars, websites, and Newsletter
2. Telling any outstanding artists and crafts people you know that we are looking for retail exhibitors, sponsors, and donations of items to be auctioned at the banquet
3. Coming down for a visit to the Townsend FEST and some great fishing.
Be sure to check out the article on the Southern Brook Trout in 2003 Autumn edition of TROUT magazine. It will give you an idea of some of the work we are involved in.
We will be sending out more information and you can also check our website www.lrctu.org (http://www.lrctu.org) or email me at tqtom@bellsouth.net.
We appreciate you spreading the word, keep a tight line, and come see us.
