Trout Camp 2004

About Trout Unlimited Trout Unlimited’s mission is to conserve, protect, and restore North America’s trout and salmon fisheries and their watersheds. At TU, we find that our most committed conservationists are often avid anglers. Therefore, we try to pass this sense of stewardship to the next generation by teaching them to fly fish and involving them in activities that put them in direct contact with our coldwater resources. Every year TU members volunteer 35,000 hours of their time to introduce young people to fly fishing and conservation principles.
The Camp June 2004 celebrates the beginning of the new Georgia Trout Camp for youth, sponsored by the Georgia Council of Trout Unlimited. The camp has been specifically designed to teach students from the state of Georgia and beyond about conservation and fly fishing in a fun and inviting environment. Campers applying may be male or female, and range in age from 12 - 15. Your local TU chapter will approve your application. Twenty-four campers will be accepted for the 2004 camp. Students will also receive extensive instruction and hands-on experience in the sport of fly-fishing. Practical topics to be covered include fly-casting, fly-tying, knots, reading the water, equipment care, and much more. Related sessions on wading safety and stream etiquette serve to enhance the campers’ fishing experiences and instill a sense of stewardship in the user. Professional guides, TU members, and experts from the fly-fishing industry provide one on one instruction. And, members of the Department of Natural Resources and the United States Forest Service will provide instruction and activities.
The Place The camp location will be at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School, Rabun Gap, GA. The school is located in the North Georgian Mountains with access to lakes, several trout streams and rivers.
