View Full Version : Fishing in and around Helen

I am taking the day off work tomorrow and will be fishing in the Helen area. I made reservations at Smittgall but I don't know that I am a good enough fisherman to catch anything there. (only been doing this for a few months) I also read in (the now famous) Jimmy Jacobs book about upper dukes creek in the WMA and it sounds pretty interesting. I have never fished the Hootch on the WMA and would like to try that out.
I thought I would try to fish a couple of different streams while I was up there. Any suggestions or ideas for flies and places to fish would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan

Hooch in the WMA is a must, especially through the week. Start by walking in behind the game check station.

PC,
Dukes Creek can be one of the most challenging streams in the state so don't get discouraged; just plan to keep coming back until you figure it out. Got lots of rain yesterday and last night so it was high today but that should make for a little color in the water tomorrow and better fishing. If you want to fill out your day, I would strongly consider Smith Creek DH. It's fishing great right now.

As always, Joshua seconds the idea of fishing Smiths Creek at Unicoi State Park. Call me for an updated fishing report.
Thanks...
