Hello I wanted to see if you could help me or lead me in the right direction. My family is coming to Blue Ridge Georgia June 21-24 to stay in a cabin on the Tocca River. We live in South Georgia so we catch bass, bream, crappie and other fresh water here. We have a pond here at the house and I have an 8 yr old son that has gone fishing crazy!
Now I said all that (whew!) to say this he is just bothering me to go trout fishing while we are there. What are some tips and good places to go. Is the Toccoa a good spot we are going to be staying on Aska Rd somewhere and right on the river.
Your help is appreciated!!

Hi Beth,
I was reading over the responses on the other thread and everyone has given you great advice for the Toccoa. If the cabin you have rented in on a section of the toccoa that is wadable (not too deep and easy access for you and your son to walk around), then by all means give it a try. Its a beautiful section of the river. Other areas that are easy to wade are Horseshoe Bend Park, 15 min. north of Blue Ridge and the Dam just outside of town. Another great area for you to try is Rock Creek and Coopers Creek. The Chattahoochee National Fish Hatchery is located on Rock Creek and offers tours of the facility. Your son would probably enjoy that and then fishing in the area. Give our shop a call and we can help you with any questions 706-632-1880.

Just a quick thought. My family and I rented a cabin in the area you mentioned about a year ago. It is a beautiful area and we loved staying there. I would offer one word of caution on the basis of my single experience on the river in that area.
The area we were at was adable, the water being about thigh deep. However I am from Florida and make trips up to the mountains once or twice, perhaps three times a year. This being the case, my legs were incredible tired from the swift currents on that part of the Toccoa. I have waded in other areas of NE Georgia and into the GSMNP, and not been nearly as tired after doing so. I suspect that the swift current coupled with the deeper water was responsible for me weariness.
Having said that I also hooked into some nice trout that fought like they had grown up in the swiftest of currents. They fought very well, even jumped a bit, and with too small of tippet broke off too easy for me. I suggest being very careful wading, using or at least having handy a staff, and nothing smaller than 4X tippet.
God Bless,
Mike
