I'm going hiking from Neel's Gap to Amicalola Falls this weekend. Besides the Blue Ridge WMA streams, do you know if there are good trout streams along the trail? Deciding whether or not I want to pack the extra weight.

whisperer sez: Stuart, i don't want to steal Jimmy's thunder and i don't know the length of your weekend, but i am familiar with the AT in the area you mentioned. the distance from neel's to woody is about 11 miles and goes over the top of blood mountain. from woody to springer is about 20 miles, and you still have another 8 miles down the approach trail to amicalola falls park. depending on your stamina and your pack weight, you may not have time for fishing. BUT...if you do, lake winfield scott and dockery lake are both short side trips off the trail, and when you get over to three forks, you are at the headwaters of noontootla creek. regards, TW

SB,

Trout Whisperer has given you much more positive information than I would have. Since the AT follows the ridgeline most of the way and most trout streams are in the hollows and valleys, I would have written off most opportunities for fishing while hiking. Thanks Trout Whisperer; great info.

Thanks TW & Jimmy. Didn't end up taking the rods. We were on the ridgeline for most of the time except for 'Toot area.

TW, you have email. Thanks again.
