Dear Jimmy Harris:
During the highly successful Georgia Trout Camp, one of the participants, a young girl about 14 or 15, caught an eighteen inch rainbow. For the remainder of the week the best the rest of the group could do was a few freshly stocked trout and lots of hornyheads and assorted minnows. This young girl was teased by the others and was questioned frequently as to her real ability.
In your expert opinion, was:
1. Was her success due to the $400 rod and top of the line reel?
2. Was her success due to the fact she had a professional guide while the rest of the kids were saddled with rank amateurs?
3. Or do you believe it was just dumb luck?
Yours truly,
Mentor Tom

Now, Tom. Isn't this what they call baiting Jimmy?

Kevin McGrath (also known as Katie's Dad)

P.S. Thanks to all who made Trout Camp happen. My daughter had a great time!

What can I say? Maybe it was all of the above, except luck. Hate to tell Kevin this but Katie recognized the difference in quality equipment as soon as I put that Sage 3 wt. in her hands. She did about as good a job of landing that big fish as anyone I've ever guided. And there I stood with no net because I thought the stream only had 9 inch stockers in it. Great camp! TU should be very proud of everyone's efforts.

Kevin...

Did your daughter attend the Youth FF Clinic back in May as well? I think I remember a young girl by that name.

I was there helping with instruction... andf for some reason remember the name...

Jimmy: You know I was just pulling your leg a little! We are still wondering how that Rainbow found its way to that spot.
The kids had a great time and so did the adults...in great part to volunteers like you and all the TU mentors that gave pretty much of a whole week to the effort.
And, just for the record, the young lady that caught the 18" was Kelly. Katie was the delightful little redhead in the group.
I'll guarantee you one thing...I never slept so good each night! Tight Lines and sincere thanks, Tom

Tom -

Are you certain that Jimmy didn't arrange for the mechanical trout from "A River Runs Through It" to be stocked in Betty Creek and Kelly just caught the wrong fish?

Josh -

Yes, Katie was at UCCTU Clinic.
