Hi Josh...

As I mentioned in my reply to skibum, some things that have been working lately are Y2Ks,SJ Worms, egg patterns, #10 brown stonefly nymphs, Green Weenies, and Tarantulas.

I hate to be vague, but it is kind of a transition time of year right now: meaning, of course, conditions may (and probably will!) change between now and then. Generally, I'd suggest smaller, rather than larger nymphs just because it's fall.

I normally mash the barbs down on my hooks before I tie the flies. It's just easier, but I prefer fishing barbless all the time anyway. Actually, I buy barbless hooks whenever I can so I don't have to mess with mashing the barbs. I don't believe I lose more fish because I'm fishing barbless, but may even land more because I think it's easier to get a hookset with barbless flies. Plus they're lots easier to extract from my waders, ears, etc.

Hope this helps some,

Lee
