As many of you guys know, I've been lurking and participating on NGTO probably since near it's birth. Anyhow, now I don't feel so bad about getting off topic so to speak.
I've been severly out of pocket for the last 8 weeks. My son was born on the 14th of Dec, so since the beginning of Nov. I've pretty much been sticking around the homestead.
Since we have the new forum, I'll submit some striper and b****pictures to Aaron. (Only flyfishing of course).
You guys that have been asking about patterns and such should have made it to the last fly fling. This time, I brought my materials, as well as a box of flies that are the "real" hot ticket.
Hooker, in response to your reply on some of those "pattern" questions, size and color and action make the biggest difference on Lanier (not to mention the secret method in which we pursue them ;). Anyhow, the epoxy rabbit strips (available through Orvis) work really well, especially if the fish aren't responding to a deceiver pattern. The deceiver will suspend, whereas the epoxy strip decent significantly.
In the winter the shad will bunch up on Lanier. As the winter progresses they will move to the backs of creeks, etc. The size of these fish (threadfins) are anywhere from 2-5". Many are the last hatch from the warm weather. Anything larger could get passed up, as the fish DO get oriented to the size of the bait that they are accustomed to.
As for color, any will work as long as it's white. :)
