Loren,

I don't have anything specific at the moment but give the DNR a call at 770-918-6418 and request a copy of their list of Public Fishing Areas (Lakes and ponds open to the public). It should be a freebie. While you've got them on the line ask for a copy of the GA Trout Stream Map - another freebie.

I think the Fayette and Clayton County Reservoirs are open to the public (Coweta is not). There is a lake open to Coweta County residents and guests just southwest of Palmetto and I think you can fish at the lake at the Ga Baptist Children's home just west of Palmetto.

Hope this helps. Would appreciate it if you'd share whatever you find out - I live near Palmetto myself.

LOREN,
The only thing showing for public places to fish in Coweta County is Welcome Farms off Welcome-Sargent Road. 404 251 2921
I grew up in Coweta County and fished a lot of the farm ponds and lakes there, but I'm sure the accessibility has changed. One of my favorite lakes was Blalocks, which was quite large, and several miles down the road that runs in front of the high school (I can't remember the name). Wish I could be of more help, but its been too long ago.

Thanks guys.

I work near the Welcome Farms pond and will check it out.

Hooker, the road you mentioned was probably Smokey Road.

Loren,

Just remembered another lake thats open to Coweta County residents and guests. Coweta County maintains a their reservoir between Happy Valley Road and Tommy Lee Cook Road. From Newnan, take hwy 29 north toward Palmetto. About a mile past the old Madras Elem. School building turn left on Happy Valley Road. Go about 2 miles then turn right - I think the road is Alexander Creek Road. There is a county park at the end of the road. I don't think they allow float tubes and boats are only allowed to have electric motors.

I think SteveD may be speaking of B.T. Brown Reservoir. I'm not sure of the fishing regs.

Loren, you really need to learn the Flint River (not in Coweta). It's not that far from your side of town. If you have a lightweight canoe, you could get to some great fishing.

Blalocks lake is on Corinth Road. It's closed to the public now and most of the surrounding land is leased by hunters or privately owned. I fished there about 15 to 20 years ago and met Coach Bobby Dodd one afternoon. He and his wife were good friends of the Blalock family and fished there often.

Also West Point Lake is not that far away. If you go to the Game Management Area on the other side of Franklin, there is a huge beaver pond that probably holds some good fish. It appears to be overlooked with the lake so close. A float tube would suffice.

Fished the city reservoir at Hogansville today. Nice lake, shallow, several freshwater inlets, bream, bass, crappie. Was muddy for the most part, but clear near the streams. I'm told it's normally very clear all over. Lilly pads. Will fish again.
