Hand Twist

In still water, I read that the hand twist method of retrieval is best. I have developed such a method, but have not seen it demostrated. (I know, if I had gone to some of the get-togethers, I could have seen it demonstrated). Any of you use it? Can it be described?

I use it to keep the line tight when I'm working big b****poppers on a slow retrieve. This keeps the bait in the strike zone longer for the tease.
I wrap the line loosely around my open palm with a flip of the wrist. Also, I make sure the line stays loose enough so I can drop it to get the line on the reel if I hang a bigun.
That's all I know.
