I'm going to try to make Charlie Elliot Wildlife Center my frequent fishing spot. I live close enough to hopefully stop by 2 times a week on the way home.
I was wondering if yall could give me some information on the best way to fish here. Should I get a float tube? waders (thin or thick)? etc.
Thanks for all the help.
William
This is going to surprise the hell out of NightOwl.....
William, my only caution--keep an eye out for all those *****snakes!
On the smaller ponds working the bank with a float tube will be sufficient but on the larger bodies a boat is the best bet--especially this time of year, if you're going for crappie.
I've had the best success at shepherd. I think the word got out about it last year so it may have been over fished towards the end of the season. I haven't been yet this year so I don't know. The Ralieghs are really good as well.
Flies:
Poppers work great for the b****when they are in shallow--for the bigger bream as well. For both crappie and bream I use ehc fished in the film and pulled at a constant and slow retrieve or really how ever they like it. I have great success when the ehc doesn't work with a bh soft hackle. That *****ehc has also been known to catch a couple of those cats on occassion as well.
Gawd that is a beautiful place, wish I lived closer to it. Have a ball and tell me how good you're doing now and again.

We haven't gotten to put the snakes out yet this year, still to many chilly nights. Hopefully we can get them out for the season soon... Do stop by the sign-in boards or visitor's center to get current lake open/closed info and new maps. According to the area manager - "There have been good catches of bream in most of the ponds during the last 2 months. Fox Lake has been regularly producing good stringers of bluegill in the 3/4 lb. range. Some of the smaller ponds are also doing well for bream, with some of the fish weighing 1 pound. Bennett Lake and Lower Raleigh are the only ponds on the area that have crappie and fishing for them has been slow. Crappie that are caught are in the 3/4 to 1 pound range. B****fishing is starting to pick up some, with a few fish in the 5-8 pound range showing up from some of the smaller ponds. Extra channel catfish have been stocked in Shepherd Lake and some have been caught. As the water warms up this spring we will expect to see more of them". Come out, good luck, and have fun.

Rod ! Someone has stolen Rod's password and is telling all his secrets !!! http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif Shepard is now a C&R pond for bass.( Mr. T you there? ) Fox has a slot limit and Margery is also C&R !!!! ( I'm smiling.) Here's one to top Rod http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif - Drive to the check-in , get a map, find Little Raliegh or Stump. Have a ball and hang on to the rod'n'reel ! ....and do look where you step, this is not a ploy to keep folks away - there are more than enough SNAKES to keep you o your toes !( really)

I'll be there Monday if the weather holds. No flies in hand, though.( hehehehehe) I know a secret - ( and Rod, this'll surprise you - I'm not tellin ! Gotta fish with me to get it ! )
N-Owl, stop by the office sometime when you are out here and say hello. (only one cup of coffee before your visit *please* - you sound a wee bit hyper at times...and we have fragile things here) Seriously, you seem to have alot of knowledge about Marben and should be put to work using it for good...
For anyone intersted in helping with kid's fishing clinics out here (general, flyfishing and b@ss/bream) watch for future information posts. We will have Saturday events in April, May, June.

Ted,
Hi. I was there today but the fish wouldn't let me leave the ponds. It was cold in the am, but things started jumpin around 1:00. I'll estimate that I got around 50 and saw one fellow take a 6lb.er out of Stump pond. Most of mine today were from Upper R. and Fox( in the evening). I'd love to help any way I can, however most Sat.'s will find me working. http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/frown.gif Is there something wrong with Lower Raliegh????? It doesn't look right? I'll e-mail you with the details. uh..........now to run around the house a time or two!
