Just got back from my little jaunt to Florida...St. George's Island..stayed in the state park with the family and managed to sneak in some surf fishing..water temperature 66 degrees...wind zero to 40mph!! sunny and clear!..The Pompano, Whiting, and spanish are running!! From the beach, using fresh shrimp (sorry..all you flyfishers!!) and a carolina surf rig (Pyramid weight with two side hooks) starting at 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm...two pompano, 12" and 15" and two small whitings. Tuesday a 12", 14", 17" pompano, two whitings, a 2' hammerhead, and a three foot stingray. After clearing the hook from the ray he kept following me back to the beach for more shrimp!! Not a bad 2 hours.
Couldn't make it to the end of the island, the cut,... requires a 4 wheel drive but was told the spanish macks were hitting everything.
The coast is hopping...I learned a trick to using the shrimp..a special way to place it on the hook..e-mail if interested!!
SOrry I missed the meeting and fling!

SuperChub !!!!! Welcome back ! Sounds like a great time to me....esp. with the whiting. ( Actually, I have no idea what the heck I am talking about!) Good to see the report and a post. Have you ever read Nick Lyons book" Secrets of a Flyfishing Addict"? He has a chapter devoted solely to the art of ishing for the chub. think of you every time I see the name " Superchub" It's a really humerus book and I highly recommend it to one and all !

I just got back from mexico beach myself. alsome fishing. Was ticked off that the cobia had not quite come ashore yet but had plenty of other fast action. The first day out, caught about 40 spanish, some grouper and snapper. Limited out on red snapper the next day about 27 miles out ranging from 6-15 lbs. Yesterday, went out for a short spanish trip and caught about 80 spanishmackeral for the day. had some good sight fishing with several schools of them also. great fishing trip overall. Need to go back soon to try some of my new original streamer imitations for those cobia. didn't even get them wet this time out. oh well, there is always next time.
