View Full Version : Bass'n Question
Ok b****fisherman, answer me this:
When you see these huge b****crusing the shallows swallow whole bluegills what do you use, fly wish, to entice them?
Or when you are fishing over crappie in shallow beds and everytime you hook a little crappie this huge b****comes out and tries to eat it?
I tried every kind of pattern i could think of. From clousers, to big eyed minnows, to rabbit stripped flies, zonkers, slidders etc...
What would you use???
btw, caught a few nice ones on poppers. First ones i have caught in over a year on a flyrod. I forgot how explosive a bass's strike can be on the surface!!!
Go buy or tie a Dahlberg (sp) diver in an appropiate color. When you strip this fly in it will make a loud plop like a popper but it will dive under the water pulling a bunch of bubbles with it and the float slowly back to the surface. Drives the b****crazy.
tried them also.It was just frustrating as all get out. maybe just didnt have the right color.
IS there a "bluegill" pattern that someone can give me or suggest???

Nixs Sunfish is one of the best looking I've seen-but $5 each in Kaufmans Streamborn catalog. Whitlock Bluegill looks good also. Enricos Bluegill is in Cabelas Flyfishing Catalog at $3.25 each. Check the Fish Hawk to see if they have any of these.

Jeff,
If you really want to catch one of those bruisers try free-lining a live bluegill on that flyrod. That ought to be a hoot! Nothing beats the real thing. Just a suggestion.

Tommy,
I was def considering that! What I tried to do was catch a 4 inch blue gill and accidently put a hook in his back and toss him at those big guys. But all of the bluegills I caught were too big for that.
I wish I had a spinning rod, a bobber and a bucket full of 6inch shiner/baby blue gills. May do that next time.

Wish I'd 'a' been there ! You've got a few choices when this happens. That big 'ol Sow was prob. concentratin' so hard on those lil' fishies, that she wouldn't even otice a streamer or other " trout sizd " fly. I have my doubts hat she would look twice at a bream imitation. It's not always necessary to se something "substantial " to catch a large fish.
What you need in this case ( most of the time ) is somethin' that looks and acts very natural, is non-threatning, and moves at a pace that allows an easy take. Someone may guess a plastic worm.............and they'd be 1/2 right. I could tell ya how to nail her ( 75 % reli. ) bt I'd have to flog ya with a slimy carp !
That'd be nasty ! I use to say that I wouldn't tell folks how to catch the heck out of bas$ unless they fished w/me ( bribery ) and I could show them a little " secret". However . it has become apparent that :

So , any interested parties , feel free to e-mail me and I'll try to explain it in writing.I only ask one thing ..... that anyone you p****the info alng to , agrees to fish responsibly with the method. It is THAT good. You could easily wipe out a pond or small lake without commen sense and CATCH AND RELEASE being practiced. OK, now I'm giving out the ONE secret that I held on to....who's takin me to NC ????? http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif
