another question:
When fishing clousers for largemouths, do you do strips, jerks, pauses, fish like a jig etc???
Do you use a sinking line? Floating line? Split shots on the leader?
How long of a leader do you use?

ON those lambe shad patterns> How do you fish them??

THANKS!

The way the Clouser is designed, a long strip, pause is the intended retrieve, and that produces a jig-like action (rise up in the water column, then dive back for the bottom as if for cover). If you want the tale on its design, read Howell Raines "Fly Fishing Through the Midlife Crisis."

It's worth reading even if you don't want the story on the fly's design.

I thought maybe I was the only one on here that had that book. That black dog out of chapter 9 has been chasing me lately. When he gets on your trail, he's hard to shake.

I just found that book, Ole Man. You should have sicced me onto it earlier. I have no black dog, but a gray one. Same idea; blander.

Owl,

Read Raines's "Flyfishing Through the Midlife Crisis." It's a great book by an Alabama boy turned C&R flyfisherman and journalist. He coined "Redneck Riviera," so he's already earned a place in the language.
