How's the water level on the Flint? I'm getting the urge to do some roaming and i was wondering how the river looks for a possible float this weekend.

Thanks for any updates.

davida -

I always check the USGS streamflow conditions page for water levels on the Flint. Unfortunately the nearest station (Culloden) is down these days bue to construction on the bridge where the gauge is located. The next nearest is Montezuma and based on those readings. the Flint should be down a bit and very fishable. If floating, you maight drag in spots but should be OK. Call Flint River Outdoors (706-647-2633) for more float info.

The USGS site for Georgia is here -
http://wwwga.usgs.gov/rt-cgi/gen_tbl_pg
There are links to many Georgia streams and the levels are updated a couple of times a day. Also links to national sites.

Davida and Kent,

I fished the Flint this morning without much luck. A few green-eared sunfish was all I could muster. I fished upstream from the Hwy 18/74 ramp at Woodbury.

The water was clear and at mid-level. I did see some gar, but no Shoal bass. Course we weren't fishing many shoal areas.

After all that, car balked so I was not able to go. Entertained myself on the local river, the Santa Fe, and managed three bass, including a very nice Suwannee, in about an hour of fishing on Saturday. A return on Sunday was not as fortuitous. When the b****would not cooperate, I had to settle for about twenty or so panfish. I did see an otter that was peering at me and my kayak while I was scouting a spring run.
