David,

For bream - 8 ft 2 wt. For largemouth b****(especially in a pond known for big b****or in a pond with heavy cover) - 9 ft 8 wt. Favorite general b****rod - 8 1/2 ft 5 wt.

It's hard to say its my favorite, when its my only, but I use a 9' 6 wt and have found I can still have a little fun with bream, but can handle relatively large flies. I can't, however, throw a big b****bug very well nor punch through anything more than a light breeze.

David,
I use a 4wt for the small stuff, and an 8wt for the biguns.

Hooker,
Was that 4lb test and 8lb test or are you completely out of the closet with flyrods in hand!!! http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/biggrin.gif http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/biggrin.gif

Ich,
I'm getting there, but you all make me feel so bad about spinning rods, I almost feel like an outcast.
I guess I'll make the "Big Switch" when I get tired of catching fish....not.

I tend to use an 8'6" 6 wt Fenwick or a 9' 4/5 St. Croix Imperial rod as my primary choices for bass/panfish fishing. Both outfits have the capability of fishing deep or shallow as I normally carry a spool with a floating line and an extra with a super fast sink shooting head.

The 4/5 is matched with an old SA system 1 4/5/6 made by Daiwa. The 6 uses a SA system 2 8/9 reel. Both reels have at least a 100 yds of at least 20 lb backing in each spool.

I use a 9 ft. leader that sports a 3X tippet to which I blood knot an additional 2 foot tippet of 4X. The leaders are nail knotted to the end of the line. My sinking lines usually have a short 1-4 foot level 8 lb leader, usually connected loop to loop. In situations where a 10/11 ft tapered leader is too much, I will use a 4-6 foot piece of 8 lb. Ande bulk mono.
