First off, totally beautiful river. Wow.
2nd off, wished I would have fished this before!
3rd, will be going again!

Fished below Big Lazer WMA. Took the dirt road down to where the road had been washed out. Followed Jonathan's directions (thanks again for the directions) to the shoals area above the island.
Proceeded to catch fish from 730a til noon. Every fish was caught on poppers. Size 6 yellow styrofoam poppers with rubber legs, grizzley hackle and brown side hackles for a tail.
Tried some minnow imitations, different color poppers, clousers, and some buggers and didnt get a hit. Put the yellow popper back on and the fish would start right back up.

Saw a bunch of gar down there. Herons, red winged black birds, the lilly's blooming out on the little islands, and only 5 other fisherman. The Lake at the WMA was packed with boats though.

But was simply and awesome river. Totally reminded me of fishing for smallmouths on the Potomac River in MD.

Great River!!

I fished the Flint Saturday for the first time as well. Fished with permission at the boy's scout camp. Did well on a rubber legged dragon, but the trip was cut short due to the appearance of a water moccasin surfacing not too far from my bare legs. Nice fishing, though.

For the times when you need to take the family, try Sprewell Bluff State Park. Nice shoals, shallow swimming area, boat ramp, observation deck, volleyball, picnic tables, hiking trails, Ranger on duty, etc.

The park is off Hwy 74 west of Thomaston. Also try the canoe shuttle from the S.P. to Hwy 36 and Flint River Outdoor Center.

I put the boat in two weeks ago at the Hwy74 ramp at Woodbury. I was suprised at the number of boat trailers at the ramp (about a dozen). The fishing was slow-caught a few green-eared Sunfish, saw some nice gar, and was strafed by a wild turkey.

Next I'm gonna try the canoe launch at Goat Mtn Campground near Sprewell Bluff. Anybody been there?

P.S.....Aaron, looks like you might hafta add the Flint River to the Stream Reports Forum http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/wink.gif

Yall better hurry out there. Sounds like in the future that the only thing you will be able to fish for on the Flint "trail" will be sand crabs. Hopefully the rumor isn't correct and the state(s) can see thier faults with this. If you don't know what I'm talking about....then you should've been at the Fling! http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif
