I've been fishing for trout for a long time now, but have just started into smallmouth b****fishing. Been going up to the Hiawassee and a few other places in NC and TN, but know there are some hotspots close to home in GA. Any suggestions would really help.
Thanks,
James
James,
I love smallmouth fishing. Don't know of any streams around here. Florence Al has good smallmouth fishing.
Now, Owl has been desperately trying to turn the Hootch into a smallmouth stream, but not yet.
If anyone ever sees a guy throwin Smallies from the I-20 bridge ......please don't call the Cops ! http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif

Oh yeah, that's just what the hooch needs...smallmouths to compete with the already overflow population of trout for food.

Hmmm! Smallies in that portion of the Hooch! More food for the stripers http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif
Calm down X-Caddis - it's not what you think. Search on " What if" to settle yur nerves. ( Or rile you up , depending on if you know what " brainstorming" is or not. Apparently replacing " trout" with Smallmouth b@ss" is a no-no, even if it's in a hypothetical , message board type setting. ( Fire away , ya'll ! )

Owl,
You ever fish the Tallapoosa River? I used to fish it about 30 years ago ( I was 12 )and seem to remember catching some (Redeye, Shoal, Coosa????) Bass. The section I fished looked more like a mountain stream than a West Georgia river.
If you haven't fished it.....given the close proximity to your house.....you might want to check it out. Maybe someone on the Board can offer some insight.

The Tallapoosa and little Tal. are very near me. I think most of the land along it ( both0 is privatly owned now.
As for going to Tenn. Drifter, have you seen the pic of me kissing the " smallie"? I thought it was my first smallmouth , everyone says it was a red-eye. http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif OOOps. Fish got a smooch fer free !

Just returned from weekend trip to Lake Wilson in Florence AL. Had TVFF trip to fish for smallies during Hexagonia hatch. Was unbelievable. Nice smallies from 1-4 lbs. Fight like crazy. Dive deep jump and will double your 4-5 weight rod like a grouper when caught bottom fishing. I have received many tips from this board and have enjoyed it immensely. .If you get a chance to go during the hatch sometime , go ! But you will need boat and motor to find hatches . I live on Guntersville Lake in AL, but we dont have the smallie action they do. Great fun !
Hey Stim
Did you fish the lake or the river? What is TVFF (I'm guessing Tenn. Valley Fly Fishing?)

Loren, we fished the Lake. early morning and late afternoon the best times. It blew my mind with the smallmouth nailing dryflies !
