Yes, I.m another Northener that got relocated and luckily bought a house about 400 yards from the river in Forsyth, and I have two quick questions:
I've hard about the limited walleye fishery and I was wondering if any smallmouth b****exist downstream from the trout waters. Are there any smallmouth waters near us at all?
Second, is there a riverkeeper or simular organization where improper activities such as dumping, poor construction/ erosion control, or illegal discharges can be reported?
To answer your second question, check out the Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper web site at www.chattahoochee.org
Welcome to the board. (I'm e-mailing you a list of rules for transplanted Yankees that another board regular sent me.)

Ron,
I passed this on to a couple of folks, and got thiis edited reply.
Reggie (770 535 5498)and Gary Beiser (706 629 1259) can better answer the SMB question. We do have stream
based shoal b****and redeye b****fisheries, which is probably what this
fellow is looking for. The best one I know of is the shoal b****fishery in
the Flint River between Hwy 39 and Po Biddy road near Thomaston. The river
flows over a series of large shoals and closely resembles a typical SMB
river.
Good Luck,
Bill
You might find the following url of interest:

It states that there are smallmouth in the Atlanta area. I imagine the numbers are very low, but it might be of interest.

I know for a fact that there is a limited smallmouth b****fishery in the Toccoa River above Lake Blue Ridge around Big Hole State Park. Although I have not personally caught one (don't really care to fish for them when trout are present) I have seen friends catch them. A friend of mine's wife caught a nice 3 pound smallie just north of Big Hole last July. She was fishing for trout and caught a small chub. While reeling in the chub, the smallie smashed it. It was not a redeye as I'm sure someone will suggest. I talked to the region supervisor for DNR up there who told me there were no smallmouths in that river.

Ron,
I finally spoke with Gary Beiser (Biologist Region 1 Fisheries). Gary said the best places for smallmouth fishing were probably Blue Ridge Lake and south and west Chikamauga Creeks.
Good Luck,
Bill
