I've noticed that rivers that hold Alose shad tend to have more than one species. I was wondering if there was any research done on this topic and if there is a reason for this.
Examples- River Wye in England- Allis and twaite shad; Suwannee River in Florida- alabama shad and skipjack; St. John's river in Florida- blueback herring, hickory shad and American shad
Can you posit a theory on why this is so?
