Hi folk,

I was reading the stream report postings and someone there stated that corn kills trout. I'm a newbie. Please explain this and cite any available reading on the subject. I tried to email the writer but got a "permanent fatal error" as a response. Hope the poor guy didn't suffer.

Go to "Ask the Experts" and pull down to 2-26-1999 and read the thread "Does corn kill trout?"

AhhhhhhhhhhhHa!

Sounds as though our poor, deceased stream reviewer went to the grave misinformed. Sad indeed.

As they say about the afterlife though, we will know all things. All unanswered questions will be answered.

Surely his enlightened soul will be able to fish guiltless on that great Yellowstone in the sky...with corn.

Thanks for the input guys!

To my knowledge (I use the phrase loosely), there is no evidence trout are killed by injesting corn. I have fed corn to fish, and failed to kill them. I was pretty rough with the fish and force fed them until their stomachs could hold no more (up to 30 pieces per feeding and 6 feedings over a two week period).

Thanks Bill ( again)
I too, try to email everyone that " reports" this fact. Usually I get a nasty response which I think is funny. Why get so worked up when someone correcs you. Right Ole Man ? ( Ole Man has set me straight a few times http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/smile.gif )
Anyway, so what if it does kill them...Tommy's the only corn-dunker I know that C&R trout after he's snookered them with Del Monte ! One person won't rock the boat tooooo much ! Frying them in butter and oragano kills them too ! Mmmmmmmm ...good !

Of course corn kills trout! I've never seen a single trout caught on corn survive...

But then, maybe it's not the corn but the fisher that's responsible. Most people who use corn kill all they catch, thus my use of "corndunker" as a negative epithet.

What we need is a corn control law! <grin>
