Chris,
I hope my earlier post is correct. The W.F. of the Chattooga has been dropped and currently the only stream slated for DH in Ga. is the Amicalola from Devils Elbow (Steel Bridge Road) downstream to Hwy. 53. I expect the matter to be decided after a public hearing later in the summer. I'll post specifics when I have them.

The only crek besides Smith's , right? Or is the DH experiment being "moved" to the A.R. this coming fall? Thanks

Owl,
I stand corrected. Smith Ck and the Amicalola (Hwy 53 to Steel Bridge) are slated for DH. The public hearing will help decide the fate of Amicalola.

Bill, do you have any idea if there will be big trout stocked in Smiths? I missed last years DH and would hate to think that I missed a once-in-a-lifetime chance. Thanks.

William,
Current plans are to manage it similarily. About 10% of the fish we stocked were our 3 year old brood stock. These fish should have run about 2lbs. when they were stocked, and would have grown a little during the season.

Also, while on the subject.... Is there ANY way we could have a sign added to the trailhead for the creek ( or the parking lot) - - -

.

This stream patrolled by DNR enforcement Officials and members of North Georgia Trout Online ( or NGTO )and the T.I.P. # ??????????? No one likes to see people abusing what you've worked so hard to establish. Thanks Sir Bill.

The public hearing to consider Delayed Harvest on the section of Amicalola River from Steel Bridge Rd. downstream to Hwy 53 will be on August 17 in Gainesville. Probably at the Ga Mts. Ctr. I'll see that the news release is posted.

Social Circle, Ga. (August 2, 1999) -- The Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division (WRD) will hold a public hearing to receive comments on a proposal that would add a portion of Amicalola Creek to be managed under delayed harvest regulations and also open the Evans County Public Fishing Area (PFA) to fishing year-round. The hearing will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17 in the Sidney Lanier Room at the Gainesville Civic Center, 830 Green Street in Gainesville.

This meeting is being conducted in a facility that is physically accessible to people with disabilities. Requests for sign language interpretation or other auxiliary aids should be directed to Scott Robinson at (770) 918-6418. All interested persons are invited to attend this meeting and provide comments. Persons who can not attend the meeting should direct written comments before August 26 to Scott Robinson, WRD Fisheries Management, 2123 Highway 278, SE, Social Circle, Georgia 30025.
To get to the Gainesville Civic Center from Interstate 985, take Exit 6 and go north on Highway 129 for 2.5 miles. Bill & Lisa: I would like to register my support for a Delayed harvest on the Amicalola--and perhaps a couple of other streams. It's an idea whose time has come in the trout management realm. And thanks for being so attentive to Trout fishing in this 'bassfishing' state!
