A special thanks to Bill Couch and all the volunteers that helped with the DH stocking at Whitewater and Paces Mill on 12/07.
Bill brought several hundred fish to be put in the river. The following areas now have healthy populations of trout:
Whitewater Park
Fish the water directly in front of the access out to mid-river, and downstream river left of the island for about 300 yards. Watch out for dropoffs. This is tricky wading!
Paces Mill
The usual spots in front of the boat ramp.
The bridge pilings (follow Bicycle trail up river from parking lot) at 285. This is about a 1/4 mile distance up river from the boat ramp. Lot's of fish put in here! Stay on the near side of the river. Water is swift and deep out in the middle.
300 yards below the 285 bridge.
100 yard intervals between the ramp and 285 bridge.
Fish are now being caught all the way down to the 41 bridge. The fish are starting to spread out! Crowding should not be a problem as it has been on weekends. Plenty of room and lot's of fish.
Bill allowed us to choose where to place the fish (thanks Bill) so we attempted to spread them out a little, but not so much so that people will have trouble finding them.
I fished with Netboy (at Paces Mill) after the stocking took place. I caught six fish in an hour and a half. Big fish was a fat 16" rainbow. The prettiest was a 5 inch brown that had been in the river awhile. Full fins with white along the edges (like a brookie) and an orange belly. (Wooly Boogers and beadhead Prince Nymphs)
This weekend should be great is the rain is held to a minimum.
I met an had an interesting conversation with Chris Scalley. Seems he has started a non-profit foundation that will directly benefit the water quality of the Hooch and it's biomass. I'd like to know more about this. Bill C can you enlighten us? Chris is not yet Internet active but save he should have a website soon.
