View Full Version : "Hooch's" midge-magic
I had an incredible day on the "Hooch" Tuesday the 13th. I started nymphing right below Buford Dam and got off to a slow start. I hooked one small brownie on a size 12 haresear but then nothing!!! The water started getting really low and midges started coming off!!! I have never seen such a profuse hatch on the Hooch it was really incredible!!!!!. I switched to a size 20 black midge pupa and 8x tippet and began sleighing the trout!!!!!! I have never seen tho "Hooch" so low they even had to let out some water. Has anyone else been on the river and seen it this low and such a huge midge hatch?

I was out there with you doogie it was a midge magical day. I have seen the Hatch coming off like that before but never the river that low . Someone told me in the parking lot that Divers were working on the Dam and they had to cut the flow off . Its to bad im not a spin fisherman I found about 20 nice lures and gave them to some guys on the way out.
Thats what I've have been fishing almost exclusively for the past few weekends. Black or gray, size 20 or 22. I tie them parachute style with a small tuft of orange glow yarn so I can see them. Really helps when the waters a little riffled from the breeze.
