I've been meaning to post this for a while, but haven't gotten around to it until now. I read a thread severeal weeks ago about vandalism in the Cochran Shoals parking lot, and just wanted to warn everybody that I have seen some shady characters hanging out in the Whitewater parking lot over the last few weeks. They're usually the same kids, and they don't look like they're there for the scenery. I go real early in the morning usually, and that's when I've seen 'em. I don't know if it's drug activity or what, but I always hide my valuable and lock the car up tight now. Just thought ya'll might want to know and take the necessary precautions.

You know JB has a lot of teenagers hanging around in the late afternoon. I've talked to some of them while passing by and most are just high schoolers hanging out. Then there are some "shady" people too. Has anyone ever had their car broken into at JB?

bbell,
Unless one of you guys drives a white Skylark with low profile tires and dark tinted windows, then it probably wasn't you. Did I mention one of the kids was peeing in the parking lot when I drove up one of the times? Not in the woods or at least hidden by his car, just out beside his car. He didn't stop when I drove up either. Oh, well. Kids today. (this coming from a 24 year old)

Micheal,
The only "shady" charaters I've seen at JB where a couple of drunk guys doing donuts in the parking lot by the bathrooms one afternoon last summer. Maybe these kids were just hanging out, but I'm pretty paranoid about stuff like this. I guess it's that "mean world syndrome". It might also do with the fact that I feel especially vulnerable trying to put on a pair of still wet and partially frozen neoprene waders while some kid with a stocking cap on stares at me from his lowrider and his friend continues to urinate all over the parking lot. The good news is, I haven't seen them lately, so maybe they found a new place to hang out and use the bathroom.

josh, you've been living in Atl. too long. Move away quick! Then you'll see just how uncivilized civilization is! http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/wink.gif

That's the sad thing, I've only been here 8 months and I already feel threatened sometimes. I guess that's the way it is when you grow up in a small town and move to the big city. Too many people I've never seen before.

I'm with YOU, Josh.
My friend in New Jersey says we'llb e going to New York City wehn we go up to visit this fall. My wife is thrilled, she's thinking, oh, musicals, theatre, shops ! I'm thinking - murderers, muggers, pick-pockets, drug dealers.

It'll be great to shout " Patriot OWLLLLLLL" from the Statue of Liberty, though ! Ya'll listen fer me !
PS - I'm practicing my "real" southern accent along with some "How you doowin?"'s so I can alternate between the two dialects. I see this as a great chance to go crazy( no one knows me up there, yet.) and have some fun with the locals............I hope i make it back. http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/wink.gif
