Hello Scott,
Long time no speak http://www.georgia-outdoors.com/ubbngto/wink.gif I have been under the weather for a while. I was curious to know if there has ever been any intrest in starting a casting club? This, as you well know, has been huge in the other parts of the country. I was thinking ; "How cool would it be to have our own club to, cast and compete with others, who share our pursuit of perfection" I know there is plenty of people that love to cast and others that would love to learn more. Does FFF have any type of affilation with sponsorship of clubs? I feel confident NGTO would be more than willing to help. As would I. Thanks Luke

Luke,

Do you really think Atlanta and the South East are ready for a casting club? Your right there are hugh clubs / tournaments and interest in other parts of the country but not in the S.E. I've often wondered if it is because of our trout fishing. All the small trout streams and little need to ever make a long cast even if you are fishing big water. I serve as the Casting Chairman for Atlanta Fly Fishing Club and we have some "cast arounds" down at the river. This might serve as a good starting point to get anyone interested together to talk about it.

How about it? Anyone interested in Luke's idea of a casting club?

Scott,

I moved here from Long Beach, California, and the big muni park in town had a large casting pond and an casting club. No fish, just casting. I wasn't a fly fisher then, but a golfer, and we walked by the casting pond between holes. I thought the casters were wierd, and now I is one! Who would have guessed.

Saw you at the AFFC meeting last night. I was a new member, who told a story about an awesome hour on the Hooch. The group is really accomodating, many thanks. I look forward to some casting tips from a real pro.

I know this is an elderly post, but as a newcomer, I say BRING IT ON! I'd definitely be up for that.

A casting club would be a great idea. I am new to the sport as well. I am currently learning to tie flies, I am always up to learning more about my favorite thing!

Well thanks guys! I have asked around and the interest has been marginal at best. Instead I will be doing a series of casting clinics. I think there is a need for casting instruction and we can incorporate tailwater tactics and fly tying. It seemed like a better approach to me. Regards, Luke Mullins

Luke,

If you need me to help out with the fly tying part of those Casting Clinics, let me know. I can help with anything, but as you know my biggest interest is tying flies. Let me know what I can do to help out, buddy. Can't wait to hit the Diamond with you.
