I was just sitting here reading the board, with the TV on in the background. Real TV is the program. They ran a film segment of a large pike that tried to eat a smaller, but not small pike. The smaller pike instead of going down the gullet head first, ended up heading out the gill of the larger pike, where it got seriously stuck with its head and pec fins sticking out of the larger pikes gill plate. These fishermen found these two pike floating on the surface and netted them. The fish were still alive and after some prying and pulling managed to seperate them. And would you believe it but both fish swam away very vigorously, the smaller haveing a set of nasty teeth marks across its back. I thought it was pretty amazing.

Has anyone ever seen an unusual situation like this or not that you would care to share?

A couple of years ago a bass fisherman on Russell Lake netted and photographed 2 bass locked much like that. The larger (6lb.) bass had a smaller (1-1/2lb) in its mouth and couldn't carry out its intentions. Both were alive but died shortly after separation.
Another case, an angler netted a struggling striped bass on Clarkes Hill Lake. In the stripers mouth was a hook with line attached. The angler pulled the line and eventually pulled in a rod and reel. Another case of hit and run stripers.

I'm assuming the rod and reel were outside the striper's stomach cavity!

That would be correct Sir Tom! All kind of crazy goings on in the outdoor world.
I have a friend who killed a small buck some years ago that was wearing a wig, or looked like a wig. Turned out, it was twine from a haybale, the buck was rubbing his antlers on a haybale and got tangled up in the twine. He had it mounted with the twine still there.

When I was a kid, we found a pike and a smallmouth in the same situation, floating dead in the Beaver River in PA. The pike was about 24" long, and had a 12" bass stuck in its gills, with the tail hanging out of its mouth. I have read of the same thing happening several times since then. There just doesn't seem to be any limit to the size of fish that pike will try to eat.
