Sylvester Croom now is the first African-American head coach to lose a game in the SEC. Do you suppose the media will spend all week talking about that?
I also see a QB controversy brewing for Mr.Croom.So far our state looks pretty good for this year.Heck, even Troy St,beat a top 20 team.Should be a fun fall.

As a Mississippi State Alumni, I'm pretty happy with Coach Croom. My impression, keeping up with the goings on at State, is that Coach Croom keeps telling people to lay off the whole "color" thing, but the media won't shut up about it. (About par for the course for the media, if you think about it...)
My Dawgs have no depth at any position (thanks Jackie, !NOT!), are about to go under sanctions (thanks AGAIN, Jackie), and basically have to overcome a three-year habit of playing with no heart. How do you get close to NCAA recruiting violations and STILL not have any talent?
To me, there's two stats that I'm happy to see at State, regardless of the record of the season.
2003 2004
Penalties: 9-73 avg 4.5-40 avg
Turnovers: -2 gm avg +1 gm avg
Seems discipline might have been seen around Starkville. Been a long time...

I think,Sly will be fine.I sometimes wish he were in Ttown, but I believe he is better off at State. He will have more time to turn things around.Being a State guy, what did you think of the QB situation?

State wasn't well taken care of the past couple of years and is thin everywhere, QB included. Croom's been quoted as saying 'the depth chart means nothing.'
Kyle York was the go-to guy for all last year and I was pretty happy with him. He's one of the few bright spots from '03. But he is/was hurt and has only been full speed for a month or so. I think Croom is worried about his health some.
Conner has played well for a NCAA QB rookie, but needs more exposure. York already has that. I'd be happy seeing them share equal time through the season, developing Conner and keeping York sharp. Methinks an over-.500 season and two experienced quarterbacks would be a _great_ year.
My thoughts are, State has NO chance at anything more than a winning record this year, so there's not much to be lost in cycling QB's, along with just about every other position on the field. Gotta' rebuild with whatcha' got first. Next year, York will be a senior in '05 with Conner a Junior. Apply that same methodology to all positions and that'd make it interesting for next year.
Time will tell...
