I encounted a few problems finishing a rod the other day and remebered that heating the epoxy can buy you some time working as well as getting rid of some bubbles. I've experimented with epoxy flies and this venture with building a rod has made me wonder about how to keep this stuff warm.

I had a thought about trying to use one of those coffee cup warmer things with aluminum foil on top of it help buy some time and thin up the epoxy.

Any thoughts?

That's precisely what I use to keep my epoxy at a good working viscosity while working on rods-especially those tip sections with 4 or 5 guides plus the tip and ferrule wraps. I use the "Low" setting and keep my epoxy in the mixing cup, which I line with foil.

I use a ceramic bread warmer (goes in the bottom of a bread basket) w/foil on top. Worked like a champ. The coffee cup thingie ought to do as well.
