Does Unicoi sell TFO rods?

The have had them on clearence for a couple of weeks at 40% off. They are not going to carry them any more. I think they are gonna have St. croix instead.

I bought 2.

Last weekend they still had a few, but I think it's only the Blue Ridge location.

We do have TFO only in our Blue Ridge shop. Last time I looked, we had about 4 of them left so it may be worth a call up there (706-632-1880) if you're looking for a specific rod. We are stocking St. Croix already (in both stores). We just like their rods, the price is competitive with TFO, they're made in the good ol' USA, and their business ethic just fits better with our own.

My roomate bought a TFO 3 wt at Fly Box outfitters. It cast great and is a good rod. However he has broken it twice. Once he had a fish on, and banged a tree limb right on the bend. SNAP  The next time I think he had a knot hung up on the guides and SNAP

Not sure of if it is the user or the rod. They have replaced the rod each time for something like $20 bucks.

I prefer my St. Croix Imperial. Excellent rod, decent price and is really sharp looking.

I've got a St. Croix and like it a lot but I'm just looking around.

The 4 Rivers Flyshop here in Blairsville has some TFO but he's sold a bunch lately and the supply is dwindling. Just thought I'd see what Unicoi had in stock.

Jimmy, what "business ethic" does TFO have?

The smart move would be to avoid answering that question. There is only legal liability to gain.

Huh???

Just curious as to what he meant by his last statement. If the company doesn't stand by their product or something, I don't want to deal with them.

Not speaking for Jimmy but there've been many references to TFO's offshore production of the rods. (Korea I think)

I currently own two TFO's, and I can speak from experience that they stand behind their product and offer great customer service.

My first TFO was a little three weight Series I. It was their first production of the rod (before Lefty added his name to the entire line) and the reel seat was plastic. After using it for quite a bit and enjoying it very much, I noticed that the rubber cap on the butt (handle) of the rod had came off. While this did not affect the performance of the rod, I wanted to get another rubber cap to keep debris from getting stuck in the handle. I emailed TFO to ask if I could get a replacement cap, and within a day got a response that they were sending me something that should take care of my problem. About a week later, I get home from work to find a long package on my porch from TFO. I'm thinking, ok they sent me a new butt section for the rod instead of the rubber cap: cool. To my suprise they sent me an entire rod: one of the new Series I rods with an aluminum reel seat and Lefty's signature!!! So now I had two 3 weight TFO's. Talk about great service!!!

One of my buddies now has the original Series I, and I have since purchased a Pro model in a 5 weight to travel with. The rods may be made over seas, but their customer service is 100% All American.

Hope this helps! By the way, the rods throw great!!

Sometimes a manufacturer will deal differently with dealers and consumers. It may be here and it may not be. Competative pressures come into play. Permanent written records that are open to the whole world can bite you.

To my knowledge, TFO is just as responsive to their customers as any of the other major rod manufacturers. As a TFO rod owner, I'm sure you'll be well taken care of if you have a problem.

Well, thanks for all the wonderful input.

Steve at 4 Rivers in Blairsville has TFO rods and he's always been the best price around that I've found. Guess I'll stay in my little corner of the world.
