I'm looking for a good wading jacket to ware on those cool mornings, something lite, 100 percent water repelant but not hot. I can't see me spending 399.00 for the top of the line even thou I'm sure their great. How about some feedback on what you have and how you like it or what your'd rather have? Oh yea, it's gotta come in a Big Boy Size.
Thanks for your opion, Mike

A number of years back, I got for Christmas Cabela's Dry-PlusŪ Packable Wading Jacket (http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/horizontal-item.jhtml?id=0012276921017a&navAction=jump&navCount=1&indexId=cat20455&podId=0012276&catalogCode=IF&parentId=cat20455&parentType=index&rid=&cmCat=MainCatcat20431&hasJS=true)
I have loved it. Retails for around $100. Comes in sizes up to 5XL.

Cant go wrong with this one. Even on extreme cold days it acts as a good shell when wearing fleece. Perfect for early spring and fall.

Mike,
I'm with you! At Christmas, I was looking for a new wading jacket, and just couldn't see spending $200-$300 for one. I wound up with a Backcountry Wading Jacket from Cabela's for about $75. It is a little heavier than most I looked at (which I like), and it is 100% waterproof. I've had the chance to wear it a couple of times already, and I really like the fact that it is dry, warm, and has plenty of pockets, cinches, and easy access underneath.
I don't yet know if it is going to be a little heavy for summer, but I figure if I have it on in the summer, it will be because of rain, in which case I won't be overly concerned with being a little warm.
L L Bean has a good one. I think I paid $140 for it. It wasn't too high. It comes in 'tall' sizes which is why the others aren't options for me. It's light enought for summer and will stuff away pretty small.

Check out the Pac-lite and the Freestone, xxl, $200. Broken down over years of use,a good investment.
I have a the guide and a simple shell for summer that keeps me dry, inside and out.
Make shure whatever you decide on, it breaths, as Trout fisherman we tend to do a lot of walking in the rough stuff and sweat with no way to escape will just make you miserable.

I got some money for christmas and used some of it at the Hodgman Outlet store. Got a breathable wading jacket for $49. And some breathable waders for $29. These were closeouts on discontinued items. Tried em both out sunday and the jacket got kinka warm with vest over it after noon.

inexpensive .... as compared to some for 149 and an unconditional lifetime warranty makes it hard to beat

Check out the Pac-Lite jacket. I love mine and they have one of the best guarantees in the businees
I second flyfishrob's vote for the Patagonia Deep Wading Jacket. It rolls up nice and tight to carry in your vest or pack, breathes well in warm weather and is a good windbreaker in cool/cold weather.

...another vote for the LLBean jacket ....it's cheap (cost wise) lightweight, good warranty and most of all-----breathable. If you do not get a gore-tex (or something similar) breathable fabric, you might as well be wearing a plastic garbage bag :)
The Patagonia and Simms are supernice and would be my choice if money wasn't an issue. I think the Bean jacket is one of the best for the money IMHO.....Drifter

They often have Wading Jackets for a fraction of original cost. Wife got the Patagonia jacket everybody is recommending from them about half price. She's used it a good bit over the last year and really likes it.

I would have to "Third" the deep wading jacket. I've been wearing it now for about six years now, and have given it some abuse. It's still holding it's own.

I second checking in with Sierra Trading Post for gear like this. I scored a seriously nice Barbour Goretex wading jacket on STP for a little over $100 last year. This jacket originally retailed for over $400 bills and I absolutely love it. It is kind of hit or miss, but sometimes STP has really nice stuff for a really good price.
Ciao,
The discount rack outside the Fishhawk has a few Simms Guide jackets for about $200, about a C-note less than normal retail. Me -- I picked up a William Joseph from SierraTradingPost for about half price (about $75) last year. Works just fine.
